Cheltenham Urban Design, UK

Nestled in the Cotswold hills, Cheltenham is a picturesque spa town one of the finest Regency towns in the country. As lead consultant, Halcrow carried out a range of planning and urban design work to revitalise the city centre's streetscape, while preserving and enhancing its regency heritage.

We co-ordinated input from specialist transport engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, and property and public art consultants to formulate a town-centre urban design strategy. Subsequently we demonstrated how that strategy could be implemented in specific redevelopment plans for three prominent, publicly owned sites.

Intended to promote sustainable development, the Cheltenham urban design framework also sought to attract private-sector investment, boosting the number of independent traders and commercial ventures in the historic centre.

We're supporting Cheltenham Borough Council, South West Regional Development Agency and Gloucester County Council in their bid to cement Cheltenham's reputation as one of England's most beautiful towns.
