Mic Yaxley

Director, emerging markets

I'm driven by concern for less privileged people in the developing world, and the bulk of the projects I get involved in have tangible benefits for vulnerable groups. Relatively small changes to processes and policies or a little refocusing of investment can yield enormous benefits for whole communities.

Currently based in London, I've spent the last decade in the Philippines as Halcrow's regional director, responsible for the group's operations in South East Asia. Working for an international, multi-disciplinary consultancy affords these exciting opportunities, and my stint in Manila helped to broaden my focus and hone my business skills.

I've had some weird and wacky experiences on jobs around the world - I was on TV in Brunei, swept down a manhole into the storm water drain during a flood in Manila and (wrongly!) suspected of drug smuggling in Guyana. All great stories to tell the grandkids, and part of the fun and excitement my job brings. Life's short, so I'm trying to cram as much in as possible.
